The Public Works Department is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the City’s mobility infrastructure in the City’s right-of-way.
Public Works is responsible for all facets of street maintenance, fleet maintenance, drainage, environmental services, water/wastewater distribution and collection, engineering, utilities, and parks and recreation.
Engineering - The Engineering Division is primarily responsible for design, inspection and contract administration relating to water systems, sewer systems, streets, traffic control, and drainage facilities.
Environmental - Committed to preserving our community’s environment as well as the health and well-being of our citizens. Through certain programs the City of Keene manages and monitors back flow prevention devices, mosquito control, grease abatement, and storm water.
Fleet Maintenance - Provides preventive maintenance and repair for vehicles such as police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, automobiles and trucks, as well as City-owned heavy machinery, trailers, mowers, etc.
Water/Sewer - The Water and Sewer Division is responsible for providing safe drinking water to the citizens of Keene and maintaining the operation of the wastewater collection system by minimizing wastewater service interruptions through maintaining and improving the wastewater system.
Street Maintenance - Responsible for the surface repair and preventive maintenance of streets throughout the City. Additional functions include minimizing hazardous roadway conditions, performing drainage work, and responding to citizen requests for service. This division also responds to emergencies, and weather events as needed to ensure safe conditions for citizens and motorists.
