PFAS Water Quality Testing in the City of Keene, Texas

As part of the ongoing commitment to public health and environmental safety, the City of Keene has been closely monitoring the presence of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in our local water systems and environment. PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals used in a variety of industries and products for their resistance to water, grease, and stains. However, certain PFAS compounds have raised health concerns due to their persistence in the environment and potential links to adverse health outcomes.

PFAS Sampling

Although most recent state and federal testing efforts have focused on known hot spots across Texas, the City of Keene has been proactive in understanding local conditions and participating in regional monitoring efforts.

Our actions include:

  • Collaboration with state and federal agencies such as the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Monitoring public water systems in and around Keene for the presence of PFAS compounds.
